The Droid is a 3/4 life size computer controlled fire sculpture based upon a Star Wars 'viper class' droid. The sculpture is computer controlled with fully closed loop communication. In addition to self sensing, it can sense motion and human occupancy within 20' of its exterior. The droid responds with a wide range of fire and colored fire effects. It is completely custom built using a range of materials: steel, aluminum, brass, bronze and stainless steel.
David Andres is an uncommon mix of engineer and artist. He explores expression and form through his art and function and utility though his engineering practice, forever trying to find that sweet spot: that perfect balance between form and function.
