About the Maker(s)

Greg Leyh
Greg Leyh is an electrical engineer with 26 years experience in HVDC power conversion and pulsed power systems for large-scale research programs.

Leyh designed the Electrum Project, a large kinetic sculpture in New Zealand that employs lightning as the major component. The work stands 38 feet tall and is essentially a column with a sphere on the top. Concealed within the sculpture is a 130,000 watt Tesla Coil. This Tesla Coil is the largest of its kind in the world. Lightning discharges--up to fifty feet in length--emanate in all directions from the top of the sphere.

Leyh also founded the Nevada Lightning Lab in 1996, and currently operates as its principal engineer and director.
