The cerviScope is a portable colposcope. This is a medical device designed for use in low-resource settings based on requirements taken from gynecologists around the world. The cerviScope detects HPV lesions on the cervix with the goal of preventing cervical cancer for women in the developing world.

Dr. Walmer, the driving force behind the cerviScope, is the chief of reproductive endocrinology at Duke University Medical Center and the founder and chairman of Family Health Ministries, Inc. (www.familyhm.org). FHM is a non-profit organization who's mission is to bring resources into underserved communities by developing meaningful long-term relationships between impoverished communities, individuals, and organizations.

Theo Tam Theo Tam [
Theo Tam is a Bay Area engineer who joined the efforts of Dr. David Walmer and Family Health Ministries (FHM) to develop the cerviScope during his graduate studies at Duke University. Theo led ImaGyn, a team of engineering students, to win the $100,000 CUREs Business Plan Competition to develop, test and distribute this device to clinics in the developing world. FHM and ImaGyn share continued success on this project under the leadership of Dr. Walmer.
