Camera Obscura Theater

A 10’x10’ camera obscura that will be an interactive theater. Attendees will view the surrounding environment from inside the camera obscura. As the image will be reversed left to right and top to bottom, sculptural elements will be placed outside to enhance the illusion and provide props for entertainment.

Gayle Laird
Gayle Laird is a photographer who resides in San Francisco. Lairds work revolves around historical photographic processes and the intersection of concepts such as illusion, optics, memory, fantasy, and the natural sciences. Her camera obscura installations have been exhibited at the Des Cours Architectural event and at Kirsha Kaechele Projects in New Orleans. Her images have been exhibited locally at venues including the San Francisco Art Commission Gallery at City Hall, Red Ink Studios, Ar+Space and SFAI's Diego Rivera Gallery, as well as internationally at the annual Warsaw Photography Festival. She received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2007 and was the recipient of their Fletcher Cup award.
