Lindsay Lawlor created the giant robot Giraffe. The toy he used is the little Tamiya model giraffe that demonstrates a single motor walking system. Lindsay scaled up this tiny model 24 times to create a huge machine that people can ride and interact with. Each year the robot gains more and more computer power and intelligence, and is slowly coming to life!

About the Maker(s)

Lindsay Lawlor Lindsay Lawlor
San Diego born and raised, this crazy "only child" never went to college or engineering school, he just reads the manuals and makes things work. In the case of the giraffe, first he wrote the manual, then he built the beast! Ask him to see the drawings of this massive iron friend he made, and get to know both and the "rave raffe" and "The Zebra" as he refers to himself. He loves the Burning Man fesitval and any art events or concerts he can bring his creations to. He also used to run "Laserium" in the space theater. Lasers and electro-mechancal machines are his dearest loves in life, specially onces that look like they just might be alive. Come say hello to him and the giraffe, and pass along your ideas for the future of the beast, who in time, he hopes to actually bring to life!
