"Design and Modeling for 3D Printing" (Early Release, Sept 2013), Matthew Griffin's maker-focused guide to design for 3D printing, draws from interviews and collaborations with a wide sampling of the desktop 3D printing community as well as artisans from related disciplines. By offering background, practical projects, techniques, pro tips, and a program for self-guided training, this book will help makers "go native" in 3D and get more out of current and future tools and technologies. Picking up on highlights from the Early Release edition, this talk grants a sneak preview into Griffin's upcoming Make: Book.

I've been making DIY dolls and figures for several years. In 2009, I sculpted a 2-foot tall ball- jointed doll with 17 points of articulation, which I molded in silicone rubber, cast in polyurethane resin, and made into a series of fashion dolls for New York Fashion Week. Currently I'm working on another series of highly-articulated action figures, also cast in resin. In this presentation, I'll be walking the audience through the entire creative process - from creating the master sculpt, molding and casting the parts, and assembling the finished figures.
This is a 3D Printer that uses a DLP Projector (outputting UV light) and a polymer that solidifies within this UV range. The plastic solid is formed layer by layer with the help of a stage that is lowered into the polymer.
EarthMake is a division of Earth Computer Technologies, Inc. a maker of industrial and embedded LCD products. EarthMake's vision is to introduce EarthLCD technology to the Maker Market through special products, application and special end of life deals on LCD displays and electronics to control them. The award winning ezLCD technology from EarthLCD, is the basis of the first EarthMake product. At the World Maker Fair in 2012 we introduce the arLCD (formerly ArduinoLCD) to the Maker marketplace. The arLCD combines the EarthLCD award wining ezLCD smart LCD technology with an Arduino UNO for only $89. We feel that the ability to integrate a color touchscreen GUI into a project will draw more people into the Maker and Arduino marketplaces. While the first product we hope to offer affordable LCD solutions of all kinds to the Maker marketplace.
I will be presenting a large scale 3D printer that is able to make objects that are roughly 4'-0" x 4'-0" x 5'-0". I will have large scale prints that I have made as examples of what the printer is able to do.
