This panel will focus on the work of Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science (Public Lab), an open-source hardware and software research and development community. It is a community of educators, technologists, scientists and community organizers interested in new ways to promote action, intervention and awareness through a participatory research model. Public Lab staff will discuss how the community got started, what the community is, and how members are making and using Do-It-Yourself research tools and organizers will discuss local projects they are working on with Public Lab tools.

Shannon Dosemagen — President

One of the founders of Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science, Shannon is based in New Orleans as President of the organization.

Liz Bary — Director of Urban Environment

Public Laboratory for Open Technology and Science

A co-founder of Public Lab, with a background in education and community organizing, Liz is based in New York City as the Director of Urban Environment.

Gena Wirth — Designer and Project Manager

SCAPE

Gena Wirth is a designer and project manager at SCAPE, a landscape architecture and urban design practice in New York City.

Eymund Diegel

Eymund works with his neighbors near the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn to help improve water quality and reduce industrial pollution problems.

Jen Hudon — Presidential Management Fellow

United States Department of Housing and Urban Development

Jennifer Hudon graduated in 2011 from Milano The New School for Management and Urban Policy with a Master of Science degree and since then has became a volunteer Organizer for Public Lab.
