Arno Penzias

Arno Penzias began his scientific career in 1961 when he joined Bell Laboratories as a Member of Technical Staff. He conducted research in radio communication and took part in the pioneering Echo and Telstar communications satellite experiments. As a scientist, he is best known for his work in radio astronomy, winning a Nobel Prize in 1978 for research that enabled a better understanding of the origins of the universe. He was Chief Scientist at Bell Labs until 1998.
