Rebecca von Geldern grew up with a passion for art, dance, and organizing everything. She has recently began cultivating her passion for miniatures and is excited to share it with the Maker community.
Home automation concepts in a 1:12 scale dollhouse to demonstrate how to incorporate intelligent lighting, home security, and modern conveniences using open source technologies and principles of the Internet of Things into your home.
What inspired you to make this project?:
At the New York City Maker's Faire in 2016, we attended a session on the future of lighting presented by General Electric. At the end of the session, the presenter asked how many people are incorporating these concepts into their home and Erik was the only one attending the session who raised his hand. After the session, people approached him to ask questions about his setup. He wanted a better way to share this knowledge but as it is difficult to fully demonstrate without showing our actual house, we decided to build a scale model. Given how prolific the Internet of Things has become, Erik was surprised to not see examples of practical implementation within the maker community and was inspired to get involved.
