Electronic Frontier Foundation

The Electronic Frontier Foundation is the leading nonprofit organization defending civil liberties in the digital world. EFF works to protect access to developing technology, a goal that is central to advancing freedom for all.

What inspired you to make this project?:
Since 1990, EFF has been working on digital rights issues surrounding emerging technology and the law. Our first case involved the seizure by the Secret Service of servers from Steve Jackson Games. Ever since we've been there to protect user rights to privacy, free speech, and freedom from illegal surveillance. We also work to make sure that intellectual property law preserves the fundamental creative rights to fair use and transformative re-use, along with access to the commons. We fight bad copyright law in the courts and by educating the public, press, and policymakers.

Our development team reaches out to those at Maker Faire including makers and tinkerers with support and informational materials. EFF lawyers, technologists, and activists work every day to make sure that technology can continue to enrich our lives rather than restrict it. Maker Faire is a physical manifestation of many of EFF's principles and work, so we love being a part of it.
