Ben Willard, president of Ability3D, is a degreed engineer, a maker, has been involved in 3D printing since 1998, and has worked at NASA, in defense, in industry, and in medical device engineering and medical device manufacturing/production.

What inspired you to make this project?:
I have been welding and machining metal parts since my teens (for over 20 years now). I have always loved 3D plastic printing and have built three 3D plastic printers so far. But I've always wanted to 3D print METAL! It's such an amazing material! I want makers to be able to express themselves in metal like I now can with my project. I want people who aren't skilled in welding and machining to be on a level playing filed and have equal opportunity to make things in metal. I want America's manufacturing base to grow once again because I'm originally from Ohio and I know how much it has diminished and how hard many are hurt by that. I believe makers need 3D Metal Printing and I want to build an online community via social media of 3D Metal Printing enthusiasts to share ideas and excitement about this segment of 3D printing.
