Hands-on Activity
Build a 3d model of a cell! We'll use colorful clay to build our cell, organelle by organelle, from the inside out. When it dries, you'll slice it open and examine the cross sections.
What inspired you to make this project?:
A teacher once told me that she disliked teaching "The Cell", and that the kids had a hard time with the vocabulary. It struck me that her mistake was that she was teaching vocabulary and not the cell. So I developed this activity as a hands-on way of discussing spatial-functional relationships of the organelles...to use the vocabulary to talk about what we were building and discuss their functions and relative positions in the cell.
