Electronics Prototyping Process
Nathan Seidle
This talk will help put the entire prototyping process into context. We will cover all the milestone phases, including:concept & planning, PCB design & layout, considerations for manufacturing higher quantities, and more. This is a great discussion for folks who are interested in getting a big-picture summary of DIY technology and how to start creating their own electronic widgets. |
| 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Stage B |
Ultra Capacitors, the future after batteries?
Mike Rigsby
How to use Ultra Capacitors in generating systems, flashlights, and cars. |

Kyle Wiens & Luke Somes - iPhone Breakdown
iFixit
What if everyone in the world could know how to fix anything?
That knowledge would empower us to perform repairs ourselves and dramatically reduce the number of devices in landfills. iFixit has successfully shown tens of thousands of people how to repair Macs and iPods, and we are announcing at Maker Faire our new collaborative repair site for people who want to fix the world! Be the very first to learn about this exciting new community.
Learn the story behind iFixit and what we're working to accomplish. We'll fix a cracked iPhone screen while we're at it! |
| 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM Stage B |
Do-It-Yourself Biology
Tito Jankowski
Are you the type who looks at a stack of 2x4s and sees a bench? Or you look at a pile of resistors and a breadboard and see something more than just components? We feel the same way about biology. DIYbio is an organization that aims to help make biology a worthwhile pursuit for citizen scientists, amateur biologists, and DIY biological engineers who value openness and safety. |

Electronics as Material

Napkin Schematics
Nathan Seidle
We use Napkin Schematics to hash out the beginning thoughts for SparkFun projects as a pre-cursor to a legitimate schematic. The goal of this class is to help you sketch out the block diagrams for your individual project. It will be taught in a round-table format. It's an ideal class for those who have an idea for an electronics 'widget' but are not quite familiar enough with the beginning stages of the prototyping process. You will need to bring a project that is on your mind, some paper or a sketching journal, and we'll help you fill in the blanks. Projects can range from medical devices, art, electronic 'helper' devices, consumer products, you name it, we'll try to help! You are welcome to use any chip, technology, or development board that you would like - we'll try to dig up whatever information we need to answer your questions. We will recommend available technologies, describe various interface requirements, and show what pitfalls to look out for - but we also encourage attendees to participate with their own recommendation! |
