We also have an art project - a take off on the Pinwheels for Peace project, but we're asking participants to write on their pinwheel how they want to Remake America. The pinwheels will be displayed either on the fence surrounding our booth or placed in the grass. Should look awesome by Sunday afternoon!
There is a rest area and a wheelchair rental area. This is also be one of the sites for attendees to fill out their safety forms and receive their bracelets.

New Archaic Woodworking
For over one million years hominids have made objects from wood. However in the land of Ikea it is easy to forget the potential of our own hands. I would love to reawaken this knowledge by leading a woodcarving demonstration. I propose that on a small patch of ground outside, I would lay out my hand tools, a few pieces of local driftwood, and carve. In the middle of the mayhem of Maker Faire there would be a little space to sit, watch and tell stories. All that separates us from the time where people whittled in rocking chairs are sticks and knives.

SWARM
SWARM is a kinetic art work of semi-autonomous spherical robots ("Orbs"). Each robot has a shell 30 inches in diameter, with batteries, motors, audio system and color LED illumination inside. The SWARM is under the command of an on-board computer with wireless connectivity to other orbs and a central computer.
SWARM is built to explore the aesthetic possibilities in the emergent behavior of artificial systems. As a first step, Orbs are remote-controlled by human operators, but each Orb's sounds and color illumination is algorithmically generated in response to location and motion. Each Orb has sophisticated navigational sensors including GPS, accelerometers, and rate gyros. We are progressing towards sophisticated navigational algorithms, much like those used in spacecraft, that allow each orb to determine its location with high accuracy. From this, we can explore emergent and cooperative behavior like flocking as well as new possibilities in machine choreography. SWARM is not a simulation. SWARM is a platform for art of the 21st century.

Flaming Zen Garden
This fire art piece allows participants a chance to express their creativity as a fire artist. The piece is not about the creator; Wally Glenn is simply the man who sets up the piece.
The Flaming Zen Garden comes alive when people work with it and draw shapes. Everyone who draws a design in the sand becomes an artistic contributor at Maker Faire. Their contribution is the shape and the moment in time.
Flaming Zen Garden becomes a focal point of conversation and a creative outlet for participants.
