Back to Meet the Makers

Chris Jefferies: Wireless Sensor Network Maker

Presenter

Chris is a DIY enthusiast focused on simple, inexpensive, wireless sensor networks and home automation. He'll show us how sensors can track temperature, light, and gas presence in your home. He'll cover the basics of how to build your own inexpensive wireless sensor network using Raspberry Pi, XBee, and Python to track sensor data and store it on the web.

Hosted by MAKE's Matt Richardson.

ChronoCube

Exhibit

A video game system for embedded hobbyists. Compatible with many microcontrollers, e.g.: AVR / Arduino, PIC, ARM, anything with SPI.

Citizens in Space

Exhibit

Do you have the Right Stuff to be a citizen scientist or citizen astronaut? Citizens in Space has acquired 10 flights on the XCOR Lynx spacecraft. This is your chance to fly.

Cogswell Engineering Society

Exhibit

We're a group of engineering students from Cogswell College in Sunnyvale showcasing some of our work this year.

Crash Space

Exhibit

We are a collection of hackers, programmers, builders, makers, artists and people who generally like to break things and see what new things we can build with the pieces.

Creepy Crawly Robots

Exhibit

Creepy Crawlies is a collection of robots each exploring a different mode of locomotion. Visitors can try out steering slithering snakes and creepy insects around the exhibit.

Critical Making

Exhibit

UC Berkeley Student Projects from the "Critical Making" offered by the Berkeley Center for New Media.

Crowdsourcing Space

Presenter

Crowdsource the Final Frontier! Meet the people who raised funds for building satellites, rockets and more! They will tell their success stories, and give advice to future space project Makers.

CyberDollhouse

Exhibit

This CyberDollhouse was made from an iMac G3 computer which we gutted and recreated as an interactive party pad for LEGO peeps and their pals.

Darkmatter – Open Source XBox Laptop & DIY Kit

Exhibit

World's first 3D printed, Lasercut, Open Source Arduino compatible Xbox Laptop that you can buy fully assembled or in DIY kit form.

Data Sensing Lab: A report from Google I/O

Presenter

The Data Sensing Lab (http://datasensinglab.com) gave attendees of Google I/O a taste of the world of the future — where we move in a sea of data, our environments monitored, measured, and weighed. Learn about the sensor hardware and the production process that built it. Five hundred mesh networked sensor motes, producing over four thousand individual sensor readings about the environment, distributed all through Moscone West at one of the biggest conferences of the year. Come behind the scenes with Kipp Bradford and Alasdair Allan, and see how the Data Sensing Lab team managed to pull off this massive installation on a ridiculously short time scale.

David Neevel and the Email Guitar

Presenter

I'll demonstrate my Email Guitar and talk about it and other recent projects like the Oreo Separator.

Designing Circuit Boards with Open Source Software

Presenter

Ever wanted to build your own "professional" printed circuit boards? We will bootstrap you with the Open Source program "Kicad" and walk through the steps understand the software and have your boards manufactured.

DIY CNC Kits for all levels of skills and budgets

Exhibit

Display of MyDIYCNC CNC machines performing tasks such as PCB track isolation milling, parts fabrication and lithopane milling. Launch of my new intelligent USB CNC interface for PC, Mac and Linux platforms. Display CNC kits.

DIY Driverless Super RC Car

Presenter

Make your own hybrid RC car using a low cost DIY kit - can be used in the RC mode or in the "self driving" mode using ultrasonic sensors a micro-controller such as an Arduino or a Raspberry Pi.
