Rotato: Team Pandoras Bots
Pandora's Bots has been fighting robots out of Austin, TX since 2003. In the spring of 2004, they decided it was time to build the most destructive lightweight robot ever. Rotato was completely designed in CAD before a single part was bought or made. The design concept was clear, put as much weight into the weapon as possible. Having 45 of the 60 lbs in motors/batteries/titanium for the weapon system they did just that. With over 20 pounds of titanium spinning at 2500 RPM the sparks always fly with Rotato in the box.

Portable Chipamp Stereo!
Tube amp, shmoob amp! This awesome amplifier delivers 4 x 68 watts of absolutely incredible sound using the LM3886 IC amplifier setup from Chipamp.com. But this is no wimpy home stereo...This amp is built in a steel enclosure box that can be taken outside and left in the rain! It's got filtered-air fan cooling and it uses house outlets for speaker connections and extension cords for speaker wire. Four JBL speakers hang from fold-up speaker stands (of my own design), to let folks hear the beauty of the chipamp and show them that they can make it too. I also have my harmon-kardon reciever that has the same chipamps in place of the junky factory amps. Now it's worth 450 bucks!

HydroRobotics
Robots in the Evironmental Field
HydroRobotics is my site to promote my interest in robots in the environmental field (engineering, mostly). The robots are mostly aquatic, since I am a water engineer by trade. At the last MakerFaire in Austin, I brought H2rObot, a prototype robotic surface vessel for bathymetric mapping and environmental sampling/mapping. This year, version 1.0 of H2rObot is finished and, by October, will have completed it's first real mapping job. My interest also includes ROVs and AUVs and I will have a small ROV at the Faire as well. A terrestrial version of H2rObot is in the works and I hope to have it at the Faire as well. The display includes information about the various robotic subsystems and sensors used and about the environmental application of the robots.

ArcAttack!
ArcAttack employs a unique DJ set up of their own creation (an HVDJ set up) to generate an 'electrifying' audio visual performance. The HVDJ pumps music through a PA system while two specially designed DRSSTC's (Dual-Resonant Solid State Tesla Coils) act as separate synchronized instruments. These high tech machines produce an electrical arc similar to a continuous lightning bolt and put out a crisply distorted square wave sound reminiscent of the early days of synthesizers. The music consists of original, highly dance-able electronic compositions that sometimes incorporate themes or dub of popular songs.

Airheads Air Drums
Airheads allows anyone to create music by simply playing the air. This touchless gizmo has two sensors sticks that are placed 2 ft. apart. The sensor sticks act as a hands free Midi controller and are able to sense both position and velocity. A player's hands are able to generate different notes and different velocities that have been preselected from any type of drum trigger MIDI and synth. Make music with this compact air instrument.

Modern Crochet and Yarn Works
Immerse yourself in the art, tools, fibers and techniques behind the evolution of modern day crochet! Did you know that crochet is the last fiber art that cannot be replicated by machines? Every crochet piece in the world has a hook and a hand behind it, capable of making thousands of remarkable stitches! Come get a unique peek into the world of crochet like you've never beheld it before. Crochet is a marriage between various types of hooks and various types of fibers, any combination of which can bring about drastically different results! Attend a demonstration regarding a variety of hooks, their uses and learn a little about the master craftsmen behind them. Play with the fiber petting zoo for a tactile exploration of texture and the sense of touch in design. Observe the fiber-sense (science) behind color combinations of various textures and watch how 3-dimensional texture can alter the mind's perception of color! Learn how you can incorporate your own plying techniques into crochet to create new looks. And witness a variety of modern fiber art, all created with a hook. Basic crochet lessons will take place throughout the weekend, along with simple fiber projects that will introduce kids and beginners to new skills that they can make their own!

Custom Fitted Ear Buds and Ear Plugs
Demonstrate how to make silicon ear buds for attendees using a 2-part silicon putty. This putty, once formed around a set of standard ear buds, works much like expensive in-ear monitors like professional musicians use. This enhances comfort and fit. The ear buds wont fall out even at high speeds on a motorcycle. It increases noise isolation as well. We can also make ear plugs without the ear buds.
